Stephen Gilbert said: "Newquay airport is a vital link for Cornwall. It is as important to Cornwall's business community as the dualling of the A30 or broadband access, and is a bridge for much needed investment bringing jobs to the county."
This week the first passenger flight left Cornwall's Newquay Airport destined for Zurich, Switzerland.
Stephen added: "I fully support plans to expand the airport and believe that carbon emissions need to be looked at in the context of total UK emissions and the very good environmental work that takes place across Cornwall.
"In our fight against climate change we must not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Newquay airport is a vital part of building a prosperous future for Cornwall."
