World Lifesaving ChampionshipsStephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Newquay, has welcomed the news that the town will be hosting the World Lifesaving Championships in 2010.

Stephen Gilbert said: "This is fantastic news for Newquay and is in the same league for Cornwall as the Olympics being awarded to London.

"It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to show Newquay and Cornwall to the rest of the world and will pay lasting dividends for the local economy."
