Par Beach
Commenting on tonight's decision by Restormel Borough Council to take no further action on the planned sale of land at Par beach, Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for St Austell & Newquay (which includes Par, St Blazey, Tywardreath and Fowey) said: "With over 150 people at the meeting it was a real example of people power in action. Having grown up in the area and as a regular user of the beach, I was well aware that the community didn't want to see any part of this much loved asset sold off. Throughout I argued for the debate to be held in public and, although we had to go the long way round, I am very pleased the Council listened to local people."
