NEWQUAY TO GET EXTRA RAIL SERVICE

May 16, 2008 2:50 PM

FGW TrainCommenting on the news that Newquay is to benefit from an increased rail service from the end of the year, Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for the town, said "This is good news for Newquay and will be a real boost for rail users. The next step in the campaign is to secure the land necessary to increase Newquay's platform capacity."

Stephen Gilbert was speaking after First Great Western purchased an extra train to run solely between Newquay and Par meaning that there will be, from next year, seven trains a day - and increase from the current 5.

Stephen Gilbert added: "The new service and timetable will be a big benefit to local people and means that the train can now be used to leave Newquay and get to St Austell for the start of the working day which is good news for commuters and students."

"The next step is ensuring that local authorities work together to secure the parcel of land next to Newquay station so that the capacity of the station is increased."

If you are a resident of the St Austell and Newquay constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
