Stephen Gilbert with Muriel Retallick who played the organ at the former chapel for 63 years
Stephen Gilbert, the Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for St Austell & Newquay, has said that Ocean Housing's development of Chapel Court in Penwithick is an example of the best of affordable housing schemes.
Stephen Gilbert said: "This is a great scheme. Too often people are worried that affordable housing schemes won't be designed in keeping with the local area and this development shows that they can be sympathetic to their surroundings. People are also worried that they won't benefit local people for the long term and this scheme does exactly that. Overall, it's a great example of what can be done and we need to see more schemes like this to meet Cornwall 's housing crisis."
The focal point of Chapel Court is the previously derelict 19th century Methodist chapel, which has been sympathetically restored and converted into four homes. The other 16 homes have been built on the surrounding in-fill site, providing much needed affordable housing for local people.
While at the opening of the scheme on Friday 21 November, Stephen Gilbert spoke to Muriel Retallick, who played the organ at the Chapel for 63 years.
Stephen added: "Muriel played the organ at the Chapel for many years, and the fact she has given the development the thumbs up is a testament to the success of all involved in this project."
