Steve Gilbert with pupils from St Columb Minor School Council
Newquay's Prospective MP, Steve Gilbert, visited St Columb Minor Primary School last week to see for himself the way the school is leading a green revolution.
The school, which has around 420 pupils, has recently introduced a wind-turbine, solar panels and geo-solar technology, to help cut down its energy bills and reduce its carbon emissions.
While he was at the school Steve met with the school's student council members and eco-champions who took time at the end of the day to tell him about the way the schools works hard to be green.
Steve Gilbert said: "St Columb Minor must be one of the greenest schools in Cornwall. It was a real pleasure to hear from the children and staff about how they put environmental awareness at the heart of all they do. One child in each class acts as an 'eco-champion' making sure that other children, and sometimes the teachers too, turn lights and computers off and that everything is reused or recycled."
St Columb Minor uses the International Primary Curriculum with each class adopting a difference country as a tool to help them learn.
Steve added: "The children are very aware of international issues and the difference between cultures in countries. They will be well prepared for the much more international age in which they will grow up."
