Steve Gilbert says "Meva says no to a supermarket"
Speaking at a public meeting on Tuesday April 7 in Mevagissey Steve Gilbert, the Lib Dem Prospective MP for St Austell & Newquay, challenged developers proposing a new supermarket to withdraw their plans in the face of clear opposition from local residents.
Over 250 people attended the meeting at Mevagissey's Jubilee Hall to hear developers outline a proposal for a new supermarket on the outskirts of the village at the top of Vicarage Hill.
Steve Gilbert challenged the team representing the developers to live up to their word and withdraw the plans as local people were clearly opposed to the idea.
Steve Gilbert said: "At the start of the meeting the developer said they wouldn't take the plans forward if local people were opposed. The mood of the meeting was very clear, Meva says no to a supermarket. I asked the developer to withdraw the plans and have written to them to seek a meeting. I hope they will keep their word and respect the views of local people."
