Steve Gilbert and Paddy Ashdown join St Austell Lib Dem activists to open new campaign office
Local Liberal Democrat members in St Austell were today joined by former Party leader, Paddy Ashdown, and the town's Parliamentary candidate, Steve Gilbert, for the official opening of the party's general election office.
Based in a unit underneath Matthew Taylor MP's current office on East Hill, the new office will serve as a base for the party's activities in St Austell and across the wider area during the imminent general election.
The office was opened by St Dennis resident Mrs Sylvia James who had come to get advice from Steve about a problem she's having.
Steve Gilbert said: "The Liberal Democrats are the only party fighting for a fair deal for people in St Austell. Whether it's promoting the new town centre, campaigning to improve our railway station or working against plans for overdevelopment - we've got a record of action in standing up for St Austell."
Paddy Ashdown, the former Leader of the Liberal Democrats, said: "I'm delighted that Steve's been able to raise the money to open a general election campaign office in St Austell and I'd like to thank those supporters who have donated their time and money to make it happen."
Steve added: "We're here to help and if anyone wants advice or wishes to raise a grumble with us then please do drop in and see us."
