GILBERT CALLS FOR RECOGNITION OF CARERS

June 9, 2010 12:00 AM

Supporting Carers WeekLocal MP, Steve Gilbert, has teamed up with ITV's This Morning celebrity GP, Dr Chris Steele MBE, to support this year's Carers Week.

Steve Gilbert met up with Dr Chris at the House of Commons to pay tribute to carers for the unpaid care they give to the ill, frail or disabled from across Cornwall. Steve is backing Carers Week to urge that they receive more support in their caring roles.

Stephen Gilbert said:

"A trip to the cinema or even a full night's sleep can be a luxury for many of the thousands of carers in Cornwall who are making a priceless contribution to our local community. I hope that as a result of Carers Week, many more carers will find out about services and support that exist to help them."

Dr Chris, a champion for the country's millions of carers, said:

"I know how carers' own health and well-being has suffered as a consequence and just how isolated they can feel. Who is caring for the carers? Change is needed at grassroots level and Carers Week is vital in raising awareness and promoting carers' issues."

If you are a resident of the St Austell and Newquay constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
