St Austell & Newquay's local MP, Steve Gilbert, has been named the 'one to watch' from the Lib Dem benches on the important local issue of housing by the influential National Housing Federation.
The federation, which raises housing issues with governments at all levels, plays a key role in helping to shape housing and planning policy - an area which is particularly important for Cornwall.
Commenting, Steve Gilbert said:
"It's obviously an honour to have been named 'one to watch', but I see it as a reflection on the added challenges a community like ours faces when it comes to planning future developments and ensuring local provision in the housing stock.
"Most of the people I grew up with cannot afford to get onto the property ladder in Cornwall. It's a sad reality that sees far too many local people move away to live and work.
"That's why I recently asked a Parliamentary Question of the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government about how to ensure that local need remains part of housing policy."
