The local MP for St Austell & Newquay, Stephen Gilbert, last week (Friday 18th June) attended the launch of the Cornish Community Banking Current Accounts and extension of capacity based loans.
Ten years since its conception, the community bank has taken a big step forward and is now able to offer local residents a credit union current account and have extended the facility for a capacity-based loan to any new member right across Cornwall.
Commenting, Stephen said:
"There is no doubt that we are currently living in tough financial times and I am passionate that we ensure local people, many living in the most deprived communities of the South West, are able to access safe and secure financial support.
"The work done by Cornish Community Banking is of such benefit to our local community and I am keen to continue supporting them and working with them to ensure that local people can receive the support they need for a long time to come."
