Stephen Gilbert, MP for St Austell & Newquay, yesterday spent a day with the National Farmers Union, seeing at first hand the issues that are faced by our Cornish farmers.
During the day, Stephen visited three farms - a dairy farm, a strawberry farm, and a sheep farm.
Commenting, Stephen said:
"The day on the farm was really eye-opening. Since farming is such a big issue for a rural community like Cornwall, I'm keen to hear the problems that local farmers face and hear what they would like to see the Government do to support them.
"I'm pleased to say that the coalition government is already developing plans to introduce a Supermarket Ombudsman to proactively enforce the Code of Practice governing supermarkets and curb abuses of power, which undermine our farmers."
