The MP for mid-Cornwall Stephen Gilbert spent Friday morning helping the homelessness charity St Petroc's prepare Christmas presents for some of Cornwall's estimated 88 rough sleepers and will be raising Government policy towards homelessness in a Parliamentary debate on Tuesday.

Stephen Gilbert, who chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group on Housing said:

"At this time of year when the rest of us are in the warm with our families and friends we should pause to consider those who are alone and out in these cold conditions. We are all just a few steps away from finding ourselves in their position.

"St Petroc's do tremendous work in Cornwall helping to provide food, clothes and shelter for Cornwall's rough sleepers and I was pleased to be able to help in a small way.

"Over the rest of 2012 I will be doing what I can to help St Petroc's raise money."

If you are a resident of the St Austell and Newquay constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
