POLITICS STUDENT SHADOWS LOCAL MP

March 29, 2012 12:07 PM

SG & David Callaghan

Cornish Politics student, David Callaghan, has spent the past two weeks in Westminster shadowing mid-Cornwall's Liberal Democrat MP Stephen Gilbert as part of a project for his University course.

Speaking after his week with the MP, David said:

"I'm really grateful for the opportunity to shadow Stephen and see his work at first hand. It was an eye-opening experience to step inside the corridors of power and see what life is really like for an MP.

"Being from Cornwall myself, it was especially interesting to see how the decisions taken in Westminster relate to the issues that matter for my home community."

Stephen Gilbert MP added:

"When I was at university, I had the opportunity to spend some time in Westminster working with an MP and it is one of the best experiences you can have ahead of going into politics.

"I wish David all the best for his studies and for his future career; it has been a real pleasure to have him with me for the past fortnight."

If you are a resident of the St Austell and Newquay constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
