The local MP for mid-Cornwall, Stephen Gilbert, is encouraging his constituents to back the Cornwall Scrap Store for a LloydsTSB Community Fund award.
The scrap store collects 'waste' materials from over 40 companies across Cornwall and provides them for free to community organisations including schools, playgroups/pre-schools, out of school clubs, brownies/guides/cubs and scouts and carnivals.
The LloydsTSB Community Fund is awarding two £5,000 grants to projects in the Plymouth community area (including Cornwall) to support their work over the coming year.
Stephen Gilbert MP commented:
"The Cornwall Scrap Store is a hugely valuable resource providing unusual and unique arts resources to a number of children's educational and play projects across the county.
"Like many other similar projects, they have suffered financially since the recession hit, they were forced to close their branch in Liskeard and reduce the opening hours at St Austell and Pool. But, the determination and vision of the dedicated people involved has seen them continue in the face of great difficulties.
"I have voted for the scrap store to receive a community award and I am encouraging people across our area to do the same. It only takes two minutes but could make a huge difference to thousands of children across Cornwall."
