Campaigned with the party for 14 years

Stephen joined the Liberal Demoracts when he was 16, during the 1992 general election.

Elected three times - taking two seats from Labour

Stephen has been a candidate for the Liberal Democrats in three public elections - and won each time.

Experience of Westminster and Brussels

Stephen has worked as a researcher in the House of Commons and the European Parliament.

At the 2001 general election, Stephen helped out in the party's national press office - doing the night shift to get briefings to candidates the following day.

A Councillor in Cornwall and London

In 1998, just back from University and 21 years old, Stephen won a seat - St Blaise - on Restormel Borough Council at a by-election. The seat had been held by the Labour party.

In 1999, at full elections for the Council, Stephen held the seat for the Liberal Democrats.

In 2002, Stephen took another seat away from the Labour party - winning the ward of Fortis Green on the London Borough of Haringey.

Both the Restormel and Haringey seats are still held by the Liberal Democrats.

Helped elect two new LibDem MPs

Stephen has campaigned in four general elections and helped to elect two LibDem MPs.

In 1997 he helped Colin Breed beat the Conservatives and become the MP for South East Cornwall. In 2005 he was part of the team that helped elect Lynne Featherstone in Hornsey & Wood Green - with a massive swing from Labour.

Campaigned locally and for Europe

Stephen has campaigned in local elections wherever he has lived, and he played a key role in the European elections in 1999 and 2004.

Works with the team

From chairing a local branch to being the Group Chair and Chief Whip of the Haringey Council Liberal Democrat group, Stephen has always worked with others to get things done.

If you are a resident of the St Austell and Newquay constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
