Steve Gilbert has been formally adopted as the Lib Dem candidate

127 people turned out to Roche Victory Hall on Saturday evening to formally adopt Steve Gilbert as the Liberal Democrat candidate to be the first MP for St Austell & Newquay and hear from guest speaker Baroness Shirley Williams and MPs Matthew Taylor and Dan Rogerson.

Speaking after being formally adopted, Steve Gilbert said:

"Labour has failed. After 13 long years we are back where we started. And yet the Tories still don't get it. All they can come up with is a tax breaks for their millionaire mates.

"At this election the Liberal Democrats are the only party offering real change. Extra money for the pupils who need it the most, the right to sack corrupt MPs, investment to create new green jobs and taking the lowest paid out of tax altogether."

"Labour and Mebyon Kernow are out of the race. The next MP will be me or the Conservative and I want to win for the thousands of people who would be left behind in a new Tory Britain."
