Local Lib Dem MP, Stephen Gilbert, has been chosen to sit on the Communities and Local Government Select Committee, it was announced today.

The committee is responsible for overseeing the work of the Department of Communities and Local Government which includes housing, planning policy, local government, council tax, fire and regeneration.

Commenting, Stephen Gilbert said:

"The range of issues that affect local people in the St Austell & Newquay constituency is wide, but includes many of the policy areas which are contained in the Communities & Local Government portfolio.

"I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in and holding the Government to account on issues like planning policy, licensing, housing provision and local services. This select committee appointment will provide me with a great platform to do that and follow through on my election promises."
